[FIC] RPF: from memories so old (drabble)

Consequences of: 1) too much Daniel Defoe and an itching need to write, 2) an idea that refuses to be turned into a longer story, 3) this song on constant repeat. I'm going to stop here so my header doesn't exceed the drabble.

Sean's hair is dark now, a glossy brown. He has put on weight. If Viggo is a man for beauty, he would prefer him as he was ten years ago, when his teeth were white, his hair gold and there were not quite so many lines around his eyes.

"Hi," Sean says. Viggo starts, for he had forgotten Sean's voice. Like rough molasses cooked too long; burnt and a little imperfect.

"Hey," he says, and smiles. "Come in."

Viggo puts the kettle on. Raises the camera. There's a dirty bandage on Sean's finger.

He always finds his own perfection.

Nice. I keep wondering about what people are thinking of this present Sean (did he get that chipped tooth fixed yet?) Because even on my flist I hear fat this and fat that and Sean has got a bit of a gut lately.

...I don't care. And if Viggo doesn't either, then THAT's perfect. And the voice... That won't change.

BTW, 11-hour work day yesterday so I'll try to get my ass in gear and finish your beta tonight.

Aw, God, I loved this. The simplicity and shortness of the last line in contrast (or as the perfect counterpiece, the balance) for Viggo's simple, realistic and straightforward observations - love how there's this little difference in the description of Sean's appearance and his voice; the metaphor being stronger, more present for the latter and it draws you right in, makes ths a thing of beauty (Sean's voice, Vig's description, Vig's realisation). Lovely.
