[FIC] Ouran: Unspoken

So. Mori/Kyouya fic.

I blame this on peer pressure. Oh my god, this is quite possibly the hardest thing I've ever written for Ouran. And it's short. The hell.

Unspoken

Characters/Pairings:
Mori/Kyouya
Rating: PG
Words: 715
Summary: ‘Kyouya finds silence in Mori.’ Four scenes, with countless words said, none spoken out loud. But for them, it is perfect.

one

Kyouya finds silence in Mori.

Sometimes, he thinks that the most enjoyable moments of the club aren’t with Tamaki cooking up huge, implausible schemes that always seem to work due to luck. Sometimes, he thinks that the quiet moments, him in front of his laptop, Mori with a book, sipping tea, are the best.

He says more during these moments than he does anywhere or any time else, but nothing is ever spoken.

The silence around them is like an ocean, deep and encompassing, but there are the sounds of the waves, lapping gently at the shore. The waves are their actions: a raised eyebrow, a small smile, a nod. Mori tilts his head and Kyouya knows he asks: How are the accounts? or They are noisy, aren’t they? Kyouya will then nod, replying Fine, as always or Yes, shall we stop them?

Theirs is an oasis of calm and sanity in the noise and endless chaos of the Host Club, and, Kyouya thinks, he likes it this way.

two

They are both protectors, whose jobs are in danger, who may not be needed in the future.

Honey can take care of himself, no matter how much he clings to Mori now. Kyouya can see this in Mori’s eyes, the silent, almost-desperate don’t grow up yet and stay with me so I can protect you. Mori has no idea how to be anything but Honey’s protector, Kyouya thinks, and he finds this truth to be bittersweet, because he is the same.

Tamaki is unable to take care of himself, but he has found Haruhi. Kyouya is selfish, so selfish – he has always taken the important, mundane matters from Tamaki’s hands so his best friend can dream. Haruhi won’t do that, he knows, for Haruhi is too practical and too down-to-earth, so completely a commoner that Kyouya sometimes wonders how she fits into this Club. Kyouya knows Haruhi will be able to ground Tamaki, and he knows that someday, he will not be needed any more.

He catches Mori’s eyes over two blond heads, and he thinks Mori reads the no, no, don’t go yet and the don’t leave me, stay in his own eyes.

We’re kindred spirits, Kyouya does not say, but Mori hears anyway, and he smiles sadly, I know.

three

It is Tamaki’s wedding, and Kyouya is the best man. His knuckles are white around the box holding the rings, but he is not shaking. Here, here is the moment, he thinks, and he suddenly can’t breathe.

A hand lands on his shoulder, and Kyouya looks upwards, meeting Mori’s eyes. Alright? he asks, and Kyouya wants to laugh. Mori is as reticent as ever, even after five years and without speech.

He wills his lips to say yes, I’m fine but his eyes betray him, no, I’m not, I’ll never be again, Mori squeezes his shoulder, and Kyouya sees I understand. His eyes are dark, kind, and Kyouya realizes that he does understand. Honey is the Haninozuka head now, and he doesn’t need Mori as a protector any more. He needs him only as a comrade, a friend.

Tamaki needs his best friend, Mori doesn’t say, and Kyouya nods. He adjusts his tie and smoothes nonexistent wrinkles from his suit. He smiles, and, when Tamaki smiles at him, nervous and jittery, he places the rings in those gloved hands.

There is a weight lifted off his shoulders and relief in his breath, he realizes. He catches Mori’s eyes, I’ll be fine, he says, and Mori nods, yes.

four

It is three weeks after the wedding and Mori is at his door, tall and solemn, and Kyouya isn’t unable to predict the bouquet in his hand. He blinks, but invites Mori in. The flowers are placed in a vase, decorating Kyouya’s windowsill, and they do not speak.

Mori leans in, and the kiss says everything and nothing and words are so very inadequate now. He gasps, but doesn’t pull away, and Mori knows him well enough, knows him better than perhaps everyone, to deepen the kiss instead of backing off.

He kisses back, We understand each other and Why not? Mori is smiling, a slight, almost unnoticeable curve of his lips, and there is a hand in Kyouya’s hair.

He stops thinking.

Silence.

Loved this fic. Great characterizations, lovely take on Kyouya and Mori's relationship with Tamaki and Honey and it was very well written. I've never even considered MorixKyouya, but when it's put this way, it works. Great job!

Mori/Kyouya is a pairing that most people probably won't see at first glance, because, well, there's there overwhelming hints of Mori/Honey and Kyouya/Tamaki. xD And thank you! I'm glad that you like the relationships shown here. ^^

*dances* YAYS. It is not bad, you ninny. It is very <3 worthy.

Although I still have issues with Mori and sex.

And OMG that was totally me being an idiot and not logging into the right journal.

I think everyone probably have issues with Mori and sex. I can't imagine it at all, personally. SO YOU'RE NOT ALONE! xD

Much ♥♥♥ to you again, dear, for betaing. ♥!

issues with Mori and sex? But Mori... IS sex. I have issues with Hunny and sex - but Mori??? o_0 Though now that you mention it, I can see him being awkward and well - quiet about it. ^_^

Very nice. I hadn't considered Kyouya & Mori as a pairing but it works very well here. Good job!

Thank you!

That was really very sweet. ♥ I love how you characterized them.

afksjfjasf THIS IS WONDERFUL! I love Mori and Kyouya so much, and I love how you've written them.

[identity profile] evocates.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, wife, you're make me blush. ^^; I'm glad you like it. And we should talk more! ♥

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Dreeaaaam. That made me all weepy again. ::sniffles:: I had never really thought that seriously about Mori/Kyouya beyond a crack pairing but you makt so plausible and believable - they really are more similar than it first seems. Your description of their roles as protectors, wanting to be needed and so afraid of being let go - it's beautiful. Haunting. True. Oh Kyouya, oh Mori.

Kyouya is selfish, so selfish – he has always taken the important, mundane matters from Tamaki’s hands so his best friend can dream.

This line makes me shudder and love and think of episode 25. And, well, want KyouTama really, really badly. Shut up. OTP for a reason. I can't help seeing it in all fics ever. ::sulks:: Canon dictates!

It's sweet and lovely and sad and true and now the Mori/Kyouya fic count is up to 4! :D We will totally start a new OTP trend here or something. [livejournal.com profile] lady_stargazer was badgering me to do M/K smut. D: Uh. Whydon'tyoutry?

wtf typing skillz

*make it

[identity profile] evocates.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Mei, you are such a sap. Not that it's a bad thing, of course. And Mori/Kyouya is a crack pairing. I just have this complex about Kyouya protecting Tamaki every way he can and several ways he can't. Because their relationship is just like that. The same with Mori and Honey, except more obvious.

Yay for seeing OTP in this! It's supposed to be slightly Tamaki/Kyouya and slightly Mori/Honey, but I think I kind of failed. I obsess over the OTP so much that it's even there in a fic that isn't suppose to have any of it. xDDDD

... You write it. I have issues with thinking about Mori and Naked together, so how the hell do you think I can write smut? >>; Your smut is better than mine anyway, SO. You should try it! xD

♥♥♥ Mei.

I really like the Mori/Kyouya pairing after this. Ouran makes any pairing possible, but M/K isn't very apparent, so this is very interesting. XD

[identity profile] evocates.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouran is fun partly because any pairing can be possible. It's the reason why we like orgy fics so much. xDDD

Thank you! Yay for me converting people to Mori/Kyouya! ♥

[identity profile] jadella.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I really really liked this - I especially liked this part

Kyouya is selfish, so selfish – he has always taken the important, mundane matters from Tamaki’s hands so his best friend can dream.

That is my favourite line, and the fourth part. It was beautiful and bittersweer and so believable. Thank you for posting! &hearts

I really like how you made Mori/Kyouya, it isn't a very popular pairing, but you're too good for that XD
Lovely work as always love your fics!! I always feel like ilustrating them afterwards <3<3 Keep up!

[identity profile] evocates.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Mori/Kyouya is kind of obscure and there is, to date, four fics for it. But it's increasing! ♥

Thank you! And you're always welcome to do art for them. I'll be ecstatic, in fact. ^^;

[identity profile] photograficnerd.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved your characterizations! I never would have thought More/Kyouya, but...hmmm...it works here. :) Lovely job.

My God... this was so bittersweet, and despite my adamant Tama/Kyou Tama/Haru Honey/Mori ... various OTPs, I loved it. The characterization was grand. I had never before considered their likeness as protectors, but now I'm glad I've seen it. It should add a new breadth of depth to my muses. ♥

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! ♥

This fanfic has made me realise how utterly hot and beautiful Mori/Kyouya is. Understanding without words... It is... Muah! I must write this paring sometime, and spread the love! This is lovely, lovely! Great work!
