Sensei was dead. He had died saving the village.

Obito was dead. He died saving Kakashi.

Rin was dead. She was killed by the Kyuubi, trying to heal the injured.

Kakashi was alive. He wanted to - deserved to - die.

Sensei was dead. The last important person in Kakashi's life was gone, and he didn't even have a body to mourn over, to cry on.

He had the Hokage Mountain. He had the name in the memorial stone. But both weren't completely and both were far from enough.

Kakashi wanted to bury his face in Sensei's golden hair. He wanted Sensei to hug him and kiss him and tell Kakashi he was proud of his beautiful, brilliant student, and Kakashi would be Godaime one day, Sensei promised it.

Kakashi wanted Sensei to hold his hand. He wanted Sensei to throw an arm around Kakashi's shoulders so he could scowl and prtend he didn't like it.

Kakashi wanted Sensei to be alive again.

He pulled at his mask, up and down and back up again. He tried to smile, but he couldn't, because he felt that his face would crack into a million pieces if he tried. His legs had long given up on him, and now he was kneeling on the soft ground, eyes wide open, staring at nothing and at everything.

Kakashi wished Sensei would come up to him, steps silent, smilling and laughing as always. He wished Sensei would kiss him and touch him and for this nightmare to go away and never ever come back.

He would do anything, anything, just to have Sensei back again. He would kill the village. He would kill himself. He would kill another village. He would do a million S-ranked missions. He would do all of them, even, if he could have Sensei back. Just for a day. He wouldn't mind if it was just an hour. Kakashi would do anything.

He wouldn't even make a sound if Sensei wanted to touch him there again. He promises not to cry again. Sensei could do anything he wanted to Kakashi, and Kakashi wouldn't mind. Not at all.

If only Sensei would return.

But Kakashi knew he was asking for the impossible. No jutsu, no matter how powerful or how advanced, could raised the dead. Kinjutsu was useless; Kakashi didn't want to control Sensei. He never wanted to, and he would never want to.

His eyes fluttered close. Tears fell onto the blood-soaked ground, which quickly gobbled up the moisture. He felt rain land on his cheeks, cold and icy, but he didn't care.

Sensei was dead.

Kakashi was alive.

Why?!
